Continuing his studies, he earned a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning (M.U.R.P.) from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), achieving First Class with Honors and securing the second position in his class. His academic journey culminated with a Ph.D. from IIT Roorkee, where he researched "Performance Evaluation and Green Retrofit Strategies for Buildings in Composite Climate."

Dr. Kumar’s career spans over 32 years, including roles at CSIR-CBRI where he held positions such as Outstanding Scientist – Director Grade and Chief Scientist.
