Early Academic Pursuits

Dr. Shamik Das embarked on his academic journey with a strong foundation in mathematics. He pursued his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Honors) from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, India, graduating in 2014. Building on his undergraduate studies, he earned a Master of Science in Mathematics and Computing from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, in 2016. His academic excellence continued as he completed his PhD in Mathematics at IIT Guwahati under the supervision of Prof. Anupam Saikia, focusing on "Congruent Number and Related Topics," which he defended in September 2021.

Professional Endeavors

Dr. Das's professional career began with his role as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Mathematics department at Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Prayagraj, India, from October 2021 to October 2023. During this period, he made significant contributions to the field of algebraic number theory, elliptic curves, and quadratic forms. In November 2023, he joined Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea, as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Mathematics, continuing his research and mentoring students.

Contributions and Research Focus

Dr. Das's research is centered on algebraic number theory, elliptic curves, and quadratic forms, with a particular emphasis on exploring the properties and applications of congruent numbers, class numbers of quadratic fields, and the intricate relationships within number theory. His significant contributions to the field are evident through several key publications in prestigious mathematics journals. These include "A necessary condition for p and 2p to be congruent for a prime p ≡ 1 (mod 8)" published in the Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra in 2023, "On the 2-part of the class number of Q(√±D) for a congruent number D" in Research in Number Theory in 2022, and "Families of even noncongruent numbers with arbitrarily many pairs of prime factors" in the Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics in 2022. Through his research endeavors, Dr. Das continues to advance our understanding of complex mathematical concepts and contribute significantly to the broader field of mathematics.
