Dr. Julian Ijumulana's academic journey began with a strong foundation in secondary education at Rubya Seminary, Kagera, Tanzania, where he earned his Certificate of Secondary Education and Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education. He pursued Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, English, Kiswahili, Civics, and History. He continued to develop his scientific knowledge and analytical skills, focusing on Physics, Geography, and Advanced Mathematics at the advanced level. He then obtained a BSc in Geomatics from the University of Dar es Salaam, at the then University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS), Tanzania. His undergraduate studies encompassed a wide range of subjects including Engineering Surveys, Geodesy, Cartography, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), and Basics in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Professional Endeavors

Dr. Ijumulana started his professional career as a Tutorial Assistant at the University of Dar es Salaam from 2006 to 2010. During this time, he was involved in teaching undergraduate students across various engineering and technological disciplines. From 2010 to 2022, he served as an Assistant Lecturer, further enhancing his teaching repertoire and engaging more deeply in research activities. In 2022, Dr. Ijumulana was appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam. His responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology, and Agricultural Engineering. He also conducts research on land and water resources, focusing on issues such as natural contaminants in drinking water using advanced geospatial methods and technologies.

He has contributed significant insights into well-known problems, particularly natural contaminants in drinking water sources. His work is part of the DAFWAT project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), through which he conducted research on characterizing and modeling geogenic contaminants in groundwater in Tanzania. He also offers professional development programs (PDP) to public and private sector employees and NGO staff in GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, spatial analysis, and spatial modeling for decision-making purposes.
