Born on December 31, 1966, Dr. Md. Hossain Ali began his academic journey with distinction. He excelled in his early studies, securing first divisions in both his SSC (1982) and HSC (1984) under the Dhaka Board. He completed his Bachelor’s in Agricultural Engineering (Honors) at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in 1988, ranking fifth in his class with first-class honors. Pursuing advanced education, he earned his MSc in Agricultural Engineering from BAU in 1990 and furthered his expertise with an M.Eng. Sci. from The University of Melbourne in 2000, specializing in Civil and Environmental Engineering. His academic pinnacle was achieved with a Ph.D. in Irrigation and Water Management from BAU in 2008, followed by a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship at Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2011.

With over 31 years of professional experience, Dr. Ali has seamlessly integrated teaching, research, and management roles. His career began with technical and administrative duties at the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board. He transitioned to research, dedicating nearly three decades to the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), where he rose to the position of Chief Scientific Officer and Division Head. His teaching stints include serving as a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Pahang. Dr. Ali’s multifaceted career demonstrates a commitment to advancing agricultural engineering and water resource management through both research and education.

With software proficiencies in AquaCrop, DSSAT, HYDRUS-1D, and MODFLOW, he has spearheaded numerous research projects addressing sustainable water management.
